Information we collect
We collect these types of information:
- Account data: email, display name, profile photo when you sign up with email or Google.
- Profile and preference data: interests, student status, transportation choices, creator goals from the onboarding flow. Saved events and swipe signals for personalized feeds.
- Legacy data: older courier listing fields may still exist in our database from before the courier marketplace was retired in 2026.
- Form submissions: job requests from facilities (company name, contact info, pickup and delivery details), event submissions, newsletter signups.
- Usage data: pages viewed and clicks. Google Analytics receives this only after you accept the cookie banner.
- Device and technical data: browser, operating system, approximate location from IP for security and anti-abuse.
- Newsletter data: email address and signup source.
How we use the information
- Show events, jobs, creators, and resources that match your interests.
- Run the community directory and other discovery tools.
- Process payments through Stripe for upgrades and creator subscriptions.
- Send the newsletter only to people who signed up.
- Improve the site and detect abuse.
- Display ads from Google on allowed pages (homepage, events, jobs, news, intel, etc.). Ads do not load until you accept the cookie banner.
Third-party services we use
- Firebase (Google): user authentication and Firestore database for accounts, user preferences, and creator data.
- Google AdSense: shows ads on non-sensitive pages after you accept the cookie banner. Google may use cookies for ad personalization on those pages.
- Google Analytics: receives page views and events only after you accept the cookie banner. We disable automatic page views on admin routes.
- Cloudflare: content delivery, security, and edge functions. It sees traffic to the site.
- Stripe: processes payments for creator subscriptions and other upgrades. We never see your card details.
- Resend: sends the newsletter emails. Your email and unsubscribe status live in our D1 database.
- Purdue GenAI: powers NaptownBot chat. It receives only your chat messages plus a list of upcoming public events. We do not send personal profile data to it.
We do not sell personal information to data brokers.
Cookies and tracking
Essential cookies are required for login, form submissions, and basic site function. They load on every visit.
Analytics (Google Analytics) and ad initialization (Google AdSense) only activate after you click Accept All in the cookie banner at the bottom of the screen. If you choose Essential Only, analytics stay off and real ads do not load.
You can clear cookies in your browser at any time. The banner will reappear on your next visit.
Legacy directory data
The courier marketplace feature was retired in 2026. Some older listing data may remain in our systems until those records are purged.
AI and automated processing
NaptownBot (the chat on the site) uses a model hosted at Purdue University. It only sees public event data and the text you type in that conversation. We do not use your chats to train models.
We use AI internally to help summarize some news and event intel. Those summaries are reviewed before publication and never include private user data.
Data retention
- Account and profile data: kept until you delete the account or request deletion.
- Legacy listings and profiles: kept until purged or requested for deletion.
- Newsletter subscribers: kept until you unsubscribe.
- Analytics data: Google retains it according to their policy; we do not keep raw logs long term.
- Job request forms: kept for operational use and then archived or deleted after a reasonable period.
Your rights and how to make requests
You can ask for a copy of the data we hold about you, corrections, or deletion of your account and listings.
Logged-in users: go to Settings and use the data request section, or email wtgindy@gmail.com from the address tied to your account. Include what you need (export, update, or delete).
We aim to respond within seven days for simple requests.

Children
The site is for people 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email wtgindy@gmail.com and we will delete the data.
Do not sell or share
We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information with third parties for their own marketing except through standard Google AdSense (contextual and interest-based ads on permitted pages after consent).
Newsletter and commercial email
You only receive the newsletter if you sign up. Every email includes a working unsubscribe link. Our physical mailing address appears in the footer of every newsletter email.
Third-party event and resource content
We pull event times, dates, venues, and descriptions from public calendars (Visit Indy, Eventbrite, Do317, and similar). We rewrite descriptions in our own words, show the original source, and link back. We do not store copyrighted full descriptions. Organizers can request removal by emailing wtgindy@gmail.com. We act on valid requests within 24 hours.
